Context and objectives
A manufacturer of advanced alloys faced high non-quality costs caused by late defect identification, with a strong impact on the downstream supply chain.
The client's R&D team had developed an innovative solution in-house, combining a custom device and an advanced data management solution, able to detect defects in molten metal from the casting stage.
Emerton was asked to evaluate the value of this innovation for internal and external use, as well as the possible industrialisation and deployment model.
Outcome
The executive committee decided to implement the innovation across all the group's plants.
Our approach
Step 1: assessment
- Assessment of quality monitoring gains compared with the incumbent solution
- Assessment of the cost and supply chain benefits for the client
Step 2: quantification
- Quantification of the financial ROI in various deployment models
